The fifth game in Konami's super popular Dance Dance Revolution series is out -- Dance Dance Revolution Ultramix for the Xbox. For $65 you get the game and the dance pad, plus if you subscribe to Xbox Live you can play against other dancers! I don't know about the network gaming factor -- I can't dance to save my life but I'm willing to humiliate myself with DDR as long as it means I get to see my friends humiliated with DDR as well. It's loads of fun, especially if you're at home and all of you are poorly-coordinated.
The reason I'm posting this is I'm surprised DDR hasn't come out for the Gamecube yet. It seems like it would be a perfect match for the cross-section of Gamecube afficionados who love social games. What gives, Konami and Nintendo? I want my DDR!
I totally agree. I played it for the fist time last week and now I want to play it more. I actualy e-mailed Nintendo, requesting that they try and get DDR on the GCN, but they replyed back and said "We dont know what the furure might hold" and crap like that. I refuse to go out and buy a PS2 or Xbox just for DDR. I'm a GCN fan! ^_^

ME WANT DDR!!!!
Posted by: Jess | April 24, 2004 at 08:48 AM
We should protest!!!!! DDR for GCN!!! DDR for GCN!!! I WANT MY DDR!!! I know wht you're talking about.. Not every single person has PS2 or XBOX. And nobody in their right mind is going to buy a PS2 or XBOX just for DDR.. (at least I wouldn't) They really need to make a DDR for GCN!!! They'll get lost of money.. That's all they care about, money!!! I would go and get it as soon as it comes out.
Posted by: Debby | July 27, 2004 at 12:06 AM
Like most Gamecubers, I want to play DDR, too. I am shy at te arcade and don't like screwing up in public. And... there is no way in Heven or Hell I'm spending 200.00 on a PS2 or X-Box for a system I dislike neway. I seriously hope Konami will get off their butts and make a GCN version soon!!!!!!!!!
Besides... what could be better than a party game like this one?
Posted by: Aoshi | October 01, 2004 at 10:49 PM
--; Yeah.. get off your lazy butts, Konami. Make yourself and Nintendo some more money, cause I'm also getting tired of having to play it at the golf corse and the mall, for too many people wanna play it, and I only go on light mode. I found a trial version for the PC though.. e-mail me for the link, if you want it.

I THINK ITS BAD ENOUGH ON WHAT THE GAMECUBE HAS TO PUT UP WITH, LACKING IN THIRD PARTY SUPPORT, LACKING IN ONLINE GAMEPLAY, AND THE FACT THAT CUBE OWNERS CAN ONLY COUNT ON NINTENDO FOR THE BEST GAMES.
KONAMI....& NINTENDO, COLLABERATE ONCE AGAIN THE WAY YOU DID FOR METAL GEAR SOLID: THE TWIN SNAKES,
AND BRING THE DANCE DANCE REVOLUTION FRANCHISE TO THE GAMECUBE OR THE NEXT NINTENDO SYSTEM, WE'RE WAITING!!!!!

I agree with everyone here. I've been a Nintendo fan for 10 years (2/3 of my life), and I've never had another system. Out of respect for Nintendo, I can only place the blame on Konami. Last year I tried DDR and was hooked. I had to play at stinkin' arcades, and none are near us, so I had a chance every couple months. It was very annoying. I went crazy looking for any form of it on any system. Turns out in JAPAN they released one for N64... impossible to get, though. Extremely rare in the U.S. Finally, I went so crazy I had to find a way to get it, at least until Konami wises up. The PC version is decent, but I found a cheaper path. If you're willing to spend about 50-60 dollars, get a used PSone, an older version, and a couple dance pads. That's what I did. I used eBay to get a sweet deal to get the game w/ the pads. Konamix is the best PSone version. Still, I don't think this solves the problem. None of us would be complaining if Konami wasn't so stupid. DDR IS A HIT! WHY NOT BRING IT TO GCN? Of all systems, it should do best on GCN! Nintendo fans are generally strong innovative supporters. That and party games. DDR is both. Konami seems to only care for money, like most people are saying. But in their thirst for money they forget this logic. And, if Konami doesn't release a DDR for GCN, I'll make them regret it. But, since in Japan both a GBC version and N64 version were released (the GBC one was stupid, you used ur fingers on the pad, but the N64 one was apparantly good), I do think we GCN owners have a CHANCE. Let them know we want it! And don't bother emailing Nintendo, they have no control over it, since Konami won't give the option. Email Konami. If they get enough emails, they'll have to make a version for us. Also, if you're really set on the idea, I'm going to be starting a thread on our forums (Dark Phenomenon, www.darkphenomenonforums.tk/) that everyone can post on that wants it. If we get enough we can also show that to Konami. STRIVE FOR DDR ON GCN!!! (More information email me at [email protected]. I just thought up this idea and am gonna put it in action ASAP. The thread for it will be up as soon as I get the chance.)

They couldn't fit DDRMAX or Ultramix on the Cube. GCN's media is smaller (1.35 GB vs. 8 GB). Well with the GCN they _could_ compress the shit out of the music. Heck if they went that way (see proof of concept at http://www.pineight.com/gba/gsm/) they could make DDR even for the GBA.
Posted by: Pinocchio | October 15, 2004 at 09:42 PM
NO NO NO NO NO NO!
A GBA VERSION OF DDR IS NOT WHAT WE WANT. THERE HAVE BEEN A HANDFULL OF GAMES THAT HAVE LANDED ON THE PS2
AND XBOX, BUT NOT THE GAMECUBE.... OH SURE, THERES A GBA VERSION OF THOSES GAMES BUT THEY JUST DON'T CUT IT. AND IF KONAMI DARES TO A HANDHELD MOCK-UP OF DDR, I WILL NEVER FORGIVE THEM, AND YOU WOULD TOO!
Posted by: Ronny | October 15, 2004 at 10:56 PM
Actually, a handheld DDR was released in Japan for GBC. It was one of the worst games ever. The dancepad slipped over the bottom of the GBC and you used your fingers. Obviously they wouldn't do that again, because it was one of the worst games ever. They realized that. Plus, GCN media isn't smaller. Though the discs are smaller, they made them in ways that they store more data than a normal CD could. It's the way they compressed it differently. I don't know where you got that info, but the discs hold about the same. Once again, if you want DDR on GCN, come to our forums, we're gonna start a petition, get as many people as we can to sign it, and send it to Bemani. I'll be starting a thread for that soon on our boards.
Posted by: Shadow31 | October 16, 2004 at 05:10 PM
The GCN discs do indeed hold more media than CDs, but Pinocchio has the numbers right. A CD holds approximatly 750 megs of data. GCN discs hold about 1.3 - 1.5 gigs (I've seen differing numbers but most often 1.3GB) and DVDs (which PS2 and XBox use with minor software modifications to inhibit piracy) can hold upwards of 8GB of data on dual layered discs (and 15GB on dual-sided dual-layered).
I doubt the music would be the stumbling block in fitting the games on a GCN; 90% of the gaming population wouldn't notice if it was compressed down to say 192k (and they'd probably be fine with 128k) MP3 format and there's lots of formats that offer better compression (among them mpeg4) anyway. The disadvantage would be that you couldn't pop them into a CD player and listen, but I have no idea whether or not that's possible with DDR games for PS2 or XBox.
I would easily believe there are legal issues in degrading intellectual property for inclusion in the game that might be a barrier, but really I think the issue is that its less a technical barrier than it is a business-created one.
Konami doesn't much care about the GCN these days (although relations are slowly improving) and the profits that would result from sales of the titles on the GCN probably aren't compelling enough to bother with the expense of porting the software and reworking the hardware.

Well, if anyone is at all interested in DDR on the GCN, please come to our forums, (http://www.darkphenomenonforums.tk) and post your name on the list. We're gonna do our best to get it onto GCN. If we get enough people who want it, Konami will most probably do it, even if they hate Nintendo's guts. (Not that a company has guts.) We already got the NDDRO up (Nintendo's Dance Dance Revolution Organization), and we need to start it somewhere, so I'm hoping to get some people interested here. It doesn't hurt to try, so you might as well. Even if you don't really care, c'mon and help with the cause, all you gotta do is sign your name! And, if you truly are interested, tell others about this and hang around the forum for it. The more interest we show on the situation and organization, the better chance of persuading Konami. On the forums we can do everything from talk to how much we want it, to our ideas for it. We can talk about songs that should be on it and features they can include based on the GCNs features. So don't just complain about it, come on and do something. Especially since Konami isn't gonna want to release the game on GCN if everybody asking for it are complaining and threatening them, or if they're begging either, but they will if we show interest and go to the trouble to try to convince them. For more info, email me, or IM me. My AIM SN is Shadow31Ncarnate. Hope at least some of you show interest in this!

Shadow, you've linked to your forum three times in the comments of this post. People know about it, and have either already gone or just aren't going to.
I respect and encourage the grassroots effort, but your enthusiasm is verging on rudeness.

Actually, I just counted, and I only linked two times. And I didn't mean to. Didn't realize I did. Sorry for the repitition. :( Lost track 'cause I've been posting on a few forums already. Didn't mean to repeat myself there. Oh, and while I'm posting, if anyone goes there and it won't let you on, sorry but our current host is very... what's the word... low quality. We are working on getting our own servers to run them ourselves, and it should be better soon. In the meantime, we will be in transition to a different host shortly. If it won't let you through, please try again later. Thanks, and sorry about anything I said twice, and for taking up so much room. I'll try not make another post in this thread, unless someone says something I absolutely need to reply to, but I won't keep posting about the site at this location anymore. Sorry for any inconveniences!

God can't you all just suck it up? As far as I'm concerned, DDR shoud only belong to Ps2 and Ps2 only, they had it first, did a good job with it, and it's the best version. I'm a big Nintendo fan/ Gamecube fan too. I just saw the Ad for the GC DDR thing today and almost threw up. Jessica Simpson is on this goddamn thing, and apparently Mario has something to do with this too, why?! Donkey Conga was bad enough! Where the hell is the good stuff?
I thought that the XBOX version was bad enough, but this? This is pathetic, and for all you people who don't want to ' waste' your money on a ps2 just for DDR, who says that's all you would buy for it? As far as I'm concerned Sony/Playstation 2 should be the only ones who have the rights for DDR, because they're the only one who have successfully been abe to come up with a GOOD MIX.
Despite the fact that I've been raised on Nintendo since I was 4. I feel Nintendo needs to start making better games and pull their asses into gear if they're going to pull off their own versions of these things and plan to stay in competition with everyone else.
Oh and by the way, half of you GameCube ranters on this need to learn how to spell, because it's the fans like you that get Nintendo mocked.

That Ultramix is the kind most of my friends asked for Christmas since they didn't want to splurge on a metal pad or a PS2 (like me, heh). I kindofaccidently got them hooked on DDR). But anyways, I played Ultramix and I didn't like it as much as my own game. I mean, the songs were semi-appealing (it had a lot more song duds than the PS2 versions though) but the thing I HATED was the pad. I'm rather short (4 foot 10--uh, very short) and my legs were straining hard to hit those notes. (To quote myself, "This stupid pad makes me spread my legs!" ::blink::)
I wouldn't mind a DDR for Gamecube though, I like it too. As long as they do a better job than Xbox, and as good a job as the PS2.

DDR is on MUSIC so... SONY is perfect (PSX/PS2) Dolby sound included; Micorsoft so so (XBOX) have also a good sound; Nintendo hum.... beautiful graphic.. they're not really stuck on music and sounds... thats the problem :/

serious you guys(or girls) if theyd team up together and just sit down and quit shovin all their resources tords new systems they could make a heck of a lot of money on ddr alone! unless sony and konami and microsoft has a copyright on that crap nintendo would be makin so many millions of people happy plus im sure theirs hundreds of ddr 4 gamecube sites out there im signin forums this is gettin old
