The App Store

I was trying to figure when (if EVER) I last paid for MarsEdit, and I came upon this receipt from the first week of the app store - July 14, 2008.

There's a lot going on there, and most of those apps are still apps I use daily or weekly (even the "Hold-Em" app!). And remember when we had to pay for iOS updates?

With the (notable) exception of the Google & The Times apps, the other thing that struck me is that these were products of individual developers, small and medium-sized businesses, who found an avenue for greater distribution and expression in the App Store. It's great to see that many of them (like MarsEdit's parent company, Red Sweater) are still going today.
