OpenStreetMap itself has been much more polite about the whole thing. ‘It’s really positive for us,’ OSM founder Steve Coast told Talking Points Memo, ‘It’s great to see more people in the industry using OSM. We do have concerns that there wasn’t attribution.’
As predicted well, everywhere, Apple is methodically removing it's dependency on Google throughout their stack. Most recently, this comes in the form of them rolling out some new maps (although not their core maps app and API) with data from the OpenStreetMap project. I've blogged a couple times about my admiration for the OpenStreetMap project, and it's great to see validation of the project.
