Heather Kelley's Lapis, sex helper for the DS

Heather Kelley won the sex in games designer's challenge at the Montreal Games Summit last year with Lapis, "a magical pet adventure and a stealthy primer on female sexual pleasure." Her playable demo and conference presentation are avaliable on her web site. From her slides:

The way you play with the bunnies in order to win is patterned after the VARIETY of female sexual responses

This is the overall pattern but it can’t be achieved in the same way every time - different things work for different bunnies, at different stages of the game

For instance you may need to use tickling at first, and then humming into the ears. But after a while that stops having an effect, and you have to start tapping on its nose.

The International Game Developer's Association's Sex in Games blog sat down with Heather for an interview about the game:

Did working on a sexually-themed design change any preconceptions you had about sexually themed games?

It changed my preconception that sex-related games need to be about intercourse. My as-yet-unchanged preconception is that a game like the one I designed could never get funded, distributed, or properly marketed, but I welcome someone to change that one too!

I'm hope Lapis' production gets funded - with a port it to the Revolution to follow!

What an adorable idea for a game. I like the fact that it sounds like you could market it as a children's game (poke the bunny so she flies!) and no one would suspect unless you told them about the motivation. ("A stealthy primer on what?!")
