We've been waiting a long time, but Mario Kart DS is finally out, with a matching Red DS to boot. I don't think I'm exaggerating when I say that if this game isn't the most popular non-pokemon hand-held game of all time it will be a disappointment - this is the game the DS was built for.
I've only played for a few minutes or so, but I already love it. They took the best features for the venerated Mario Kart franchise and combined them all into one game. A "best-of" lineup of courses from all past editions, the controls from the Nintendo 64 game, and the items from Double Dash. It took me a minute to remember "the hop," but after that it was off to the races.
The wifi takes all of 3 seconds to set up - I spent more time looking up my WEP key than I did with the rest of the process combined. I haven't logged on to explore the social aspects of NintendoWifi.com yet, but it looks to be fully web 2.0-buzz compliant - with friends, "rivals," private groups and even a usage chart!
My friend code is: 382311513661. Within the game you can "register" me as a friend so we can play together, although the game can also find strangers for you to play with very easily. I'll still be on the N train, but now I can play with my friends across the country too.
