I think it's pretty clear!
It's not there is no endzone, it's just that they want to avoid people getting hurt. Still, it'll be disorienting to always see offense always going one way!

What do you mean? They intercept it and run it into the other endzone. There are still two endzones!

It's a risk, but it's rare that a defensive player would need to race out of bounds beyond the endzone when they've intercepted a pass or recovered a fumble.
