I finally signed up for Goodreads this morning, which I have been hearing buzz about for the longest. They nailed the Facebook integration, the sign-up and friending process was an excellent experience. Within an hour I had a full list of friends, people obviously find this service meaningful and rewarding.
One nit - I was stopped dead in my tracks the first time I tried to add a book to my "currently-reading" shelf. I don't know the page number, I only know the Kindle location!

The Kindle needs a Goodreads app that can tell Goodreads what you're reading and where you are in the book. Do they have apps?

Nah, I honestly don't mind. I want a connected reading experience, but I'm not sure the kindle is it.

I love GoodReads for discovery and tracking, but I haven't really found my way to doing reviewing on there (other than the star rating mechanism). Maybe it's just that I don't feel that i'm a terribly good book reviewer, or blogging has ruined me for putting together anything more than a few snarky sentences in a row, but I'm amazed by people (like Jake, for instance) who can write these great reviews of what they're reading...

One of my greatest skills is the ability to process information quickly, without sacrificing the ability to pull out the most important pieces. But I am nothing in that department compared to Jake. He's editing Gothamist while Jen is on maternity leave. I loved his tweet yesterday "Today Gothamist did 50 posts. The NYTimes Metro section did 22 stories, including Cityroom blog posts- I think they missed quite a bit."
They certainly did!
